Founded in 1992, West Sussex based Arundel Brewery spent a little over 20 years brewing traditional cask ales and building a stellar local reputation in the process. Upon opening, it became the first brewery based in the historic market town for a little over 70 years, marking the rebirth of a tradition that had been all but lost in the region.
In 2013, Stuart Walker, his wife Samantha and brother Neil bought the brewery and began transforming Arundel into one of the most popular, forward-thinking breweries in the country today. Many of the original beers remain (albeit under different guises) but it’s the host of new additions, specials and collaborations that have set the tongues of beer geeks across the country wagging.
“We make a wide range of beers from classic beers like our ever-popular Sussex Gold, to innovative new beers like our Chocolate, Coffee and Maple Syrup Stout. Our aim is to create the most delicious and flavoursome beers we can and continually push the boundaries of what’s possible.”
This appetite for experimentation has gained recognition nationally with Arundel picking up numerous awards since 2013 as well as having five of their core beers rated no.1 in their categories on Untappd. It’s also lead to international acclaim and numerous collaborations with some of the best craft breweries from across the pond.
In 2019 things kicked up a notch with the launch of Arundel’s Brewhouse Project, a beautiful cafe and taproom, inspired by the likes of Tree House Brewing in the US, acting as an outpost for the freshest craft beer, coffee and delicious food in the stunning Sussex countryside. The venue also played host to Arundel’s inaugural Brewfest in January of 2020. A beer and music festival bringing together some of the biggest names in brewing such as Pressure Drop and North Brew Co.
For tonight’s BeerBods tasting we have Red Handed, A well rounded and balanced red ale with tropical, citrusy notes from New Zealand and American hops. The fruitiness upfront is balanced by a solid malt backbone that brings notes of caramel, toffee and an almost boozy finish.
