The Bluestone Brewing Company is based on a working farm in the tiny village of Cilgwyn near Newport (the one in Pembrokeshire, not the one that brought us Goldie Looking Chain and Tiny Rebel). It’s a pretty hard place to find but it's definitely worth it when you do.
The brewery was founded by father and daughter team Simon and Amy Turner in 2013 and has been growing slowly ever since. They poured their first pint in the Golden Lion in Newport, (A popular local watering hole that still regularly pours Bluestone beers.) and have developed a solid following since, now pouring in over 200 outlets across the country.
Since the outset, Bluestone has prided itself on the sustainability of the brewery and the beers they’re producing…
“We take pride in the fact that our brewery is incredibly environmentally friendly. All of the bi-products from brewing are re-used on the farm or fed back to our animals. The water that we use to make our beer comes from our own well and we even generate our own solar power!”
This ethos was officially recognised in 2018 when Bluestone became the first Brewery in the world to be given the Green Key Accreditation, an international award that recognises environmentally sustainable businesses and something the team are incredibly proud of.
For tonight’s beer, we have Stone Cold. A 4.2% session pale brewed using Simcoe and Mosaic hops. Big hits of citrus and stonefruit up front give way to distinctive notes of grass and pine from the Mosaic. Plenty of bitterness that lingers on the palate keeps you coming back for more.
