Based out of Ashgrove Farm in rural Wiltshire, Gritchie Brewing was founded in 2017 and is the brainchild of none other than Guy Ritchie. Aside from directing some of team BeerBods favourite films, Ritchie has always had an interest in beer and brewing.
“I’ve always had a passion for beer and pub culture, so it seemed fitting that I should set up a brewery. I’m interested in trying to add a subtle and contemporary change to the traditional drink of Britain”
From the outset, Gritchie Brewing has done things right. A focus on locally sourced ingredients including Maris Otter malt barley that they harvest from their own fields and the local water sourced from beneath the ground of their land.
“We harvest 80 tons of Maris Otter malt barley each year to create our range of beers and aim for the peak of summertime at the end of July or towards the start of August – using those hot dry days to gather the barley.”
Now operating a 20 barrel brew kit Gritchie already have plans drawn up for brewery expansion. This ambition, combined with the recognition they’ve already received in the form CAMRA and SIBA awards at the end of last year means we’re likely to be seeing a lot more from Gritchie Brewing in the months ahead.
For tonight’s beer we have Session Lore, a session IPA that champions all things citrus. Notes of grapefruit and lemon zest give way to a distinct and lasting bitterness from Centennial, Simcoe & Columbus hops. An English IPA with American hops, what’s not to like?
