The Story

The story of tonight’s beer is quite unlike anything we’ve featured before at BeerBods. First off, tonight’s beer doesn’t come from an actual brewery. Instead, it comes from the minds of two keen homebrewers, an international competition and the thoughts and opinions of the one and only James Blunt…Yep, that’s right…James Blunt.

Old pals Sven and Nicolas’ had been homebrewing beer for years out of their garage in their hometown in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium. Somewhat of a passion project for the pair, they would test their brews on family and friends before using local breweries to produce their beer in small volumes to serve a few cafes in their local area.

Everything changed for the pair in the spring of 2021 when they were selected out of thousands of applicants to take part in the Amazon Prime Series - Beer Masters, hosted by none other than James Blunt and brewing industry rock star Jaega Wise. The premise was simple, each week 5 teams from across Europe would compete to brew one style of beer. After 5 weeks and 25 beers, one beer was crowned champion to be brewed commercially at Camden Town Brewery.

After 5 weeks of gruelling challenges, Sven and Nicolas came out on top, lifting the Beer Masters crown. The winning beer and our beer of the week is Bless the Barley, a 9% Barley Wine brewed exclusively for Amazon and Beer Hawk.

Bless the Barley has a unique flavour. It combines the rich sweetness of caramelised malts, topped off with subtle notes of fig and oak. Born from a passion for homebrewing and beer diversity, this Belgian Barley Wine is slowly brewed, developing complexity over time. We can’t wait to see what you think.
