Founded by husband and wife duo, Euan and Fiona Maceachern in 2011, Loch Lomond Brewery started life in the kitchen of the family home in Luss on the shores of Loch Lomond.
After packing in their day jobs to pursue a career in brewing full time, it wasn’t long before Loch Lomond beers were making a name for themselves.
‘We don’t claim to be the most trendy, or the most highly hopped or the strongest. What you will get is good quality, traditional, thirst-quenching ales with a twist.’
Part of the inspiration and magic of the beers Loch Lomond produce come from the environment that surrounds them. The natural phenomena that is Loch Lomond is at the heart of everything the brewery stands for.
“The Loch, which is the greatest expanse of fresh water in the United Kingdom is all about contrasts, from the high mountainous fjord-like north to the wooded islands and fertile lowlands in the south. We too are all about contrasts and have established a range of award-winning ales from traditional and malty to new and exciting IPA’s.”
The brewery draws its pure, soft, Scottish water from Glen Finlas on the western side of the Loch, which provides the base for all of Loch Lomond’s beers. This is combined with the finest Marris Otter malts and the breweries very own yeast strain to create the distinctive characteristics that are present in every Loch Lomond beer.
For this week’s beer, we have Silkie Stout. A robust Oatmeal Stout with roast coffee aromas and a rich chocolate flavour. The oatmeal brings body and mouthfeel in droves, with a velvety smooth finish.
