The Story

Founded in 2020, slap bang in the middle of a global pandemic, Tartarus beer have quickly made a name for themselves brewing their own unique takes on strong, traditional European beer styles.

The brewery is run by dynamic duo Jordan and Jack who both have previous when it comes to brewing and the beer industry. Jack had previously worked as a brewer for Northern Monk and Jordan at Brew York, quite the CV’s if you plan to start a brewery of your own.

The pair had always dreamed of running a brewery of their own and having both been put on furlough at the beginning of the first lockdown, Jack and Jordan, who had recently moved in together, took the extra time they found themselves with and put it to good use, setting up a pilot kit and doing what they do best… Brewing.

Tartarus Lifestyle1

Things took off quickly from there, Jack went full-time with Tartarus in February 2021 and then Jordan joined in October. They expanded to a larger site where they currently cuckoo brew.

“Our ethos to beer is brew anything but boring! We like to brew traditional styles of beer but always add some sort of twist (a Tartarus twist if you wish!) The brewery is named after the Greek Hell and all of our beers are named after mythical creatures and legends.

We are currently cuckoo brewing and whilst this has helped us get our beers further afield and in larger volumes, we really want our own place. We are in the process of getting funding together to set up our own brewery, which will of course have a taproom. Watch this space!”

For tonight’s beer we have Baku, A classic style Saison, brewed with speciality malts; rye, special b and aromatic malt, to produce a richer malt backbone. The beer is fermented with Tartarus’s own house Belgian Saison ale blend that brings plenty of spice and that distinctive funk.
