The Ones to Watch Box 2016
We love putting this box together every year. 12 beers from 12 of the best new breweries in the UK. Keep an eye on these guys and gals in 2016.
This product is sold out or no longer available.
VOCATION BREWERY (HEBDEN BRIDGE), LIFE & DEATH (330ml can, 6.5% ABV)
Launched in Spring last year by the former owner of Blue Monkey Brewery in Nottingham. To be less than a year old and have such a reputation for canned pales is some feat. Life & Death is a banging US pale.
MONDO BREWING (LONDON), KEMOSABE IPA (330ml, 6.4% ABV)
Launching a new brewery in the already crammed London was a brave act. Battersea's newest outfit look like they've got more than what it takes to stand out from the crowd. This IPA is their flagship beer and sets out their stall.
LEFT HANDED GIANT (BRISTOL), RED 5 (330ml, 5% ABV)
From the guys that bought you Small Bar comes their own beer brand. Gypsy brewing for now, these guys are going to be big. Trust us. Lovely, unique little stubby bottles too. Red 5 is a US inspired red ale. Yummy.
GUN BREWERY (EAST SUSSEX), SCARAMANGA EXTRA PALE (330ml can, 3.9% ABV)
This is a brewery visit you may never return from. Ace beer. Beautiful setting. And the logo is an old hobo sign that means MAN WITH GUN LIVES HERE. Eek. Fear not, this is a friendly, tasty little session pale.
ELECTRIC BEAR (BATH), HEISENBERG'S DOUBLE DECOCTION DOPPELBOCK (330ml, 9.1% ABV)
Bath is an ace little place and now it finally has a brewery, slap bang in the city centre, that does it justice. This Doppelbock is a hefty, boozy, fruitcakey beaut of a beer.
KEW BREWERY (LONDON), PAGODA NO. 1 (330ml, 5% ABV)
Understated and stylish new brewery less than a mile from, and inspired by, the world-famous gardens at Kew. Pagoda No. 1 is the first in a series of pale ales celebrating English hops.
ALMASTY BREWING CO (NEWCASTLE), OYSTER AND SEAWEED PORTER (330ml, 5% ABV)
The most exciting thing to come out of the North East since The Futureheads. This beer is made with ingredients caught off their very own North Shields coast. A bit special.
VERDANT BREWING CO (CORNWALL), HEADBAND (330ml, 5.5% ABV)
Adam Robertson has a background in design and a passion for home-brewing. It's no surprise then that his beers taste as good as they look. Headband is the archetypal juicy banger.
CLOUDWATER BREW CO (MANCHESTER), BLACK IPA (330ml, 6% ABV)
It's hard to remember a brewery ever launched to such hype. Then everyone tried their beers and said "yep, we were right". Inspired by the seasons, this Black IPA is from the Cloudwater Winter 16 range.
TWISTED BARREL ALE (COVENTRY), IN AMBER CLAD (330ml, 6% ABV)
The West Midlands is a bit of a black spot for brewing. The lovely guys at Twisted Barrel are putting that right. In Amber Clad is a stonking Rye IPA.
ALPHABET BREWING (MANCHESTER), CRATE DIGGER (330ml, 8.3% ABV)
Founded by the brains behind Kosmonaut Bar in the city’s Northern Quarter and, after six months of honing recipes in a brewery near Piccadilly Station, the team is getting its beers further afield. This imperial stout brewed with Brazilian coffee beans is the nuts.
EDINBURGH BEER FACTORY (EDINBURGH - DUH), PAOLOZZI LAGER (330ml, 5.2% ABV)
Described as “unashamedly modern and urban”, the Edinburgh Beer Factory has already unveiled its first product – a craft lager named after Eduardo Paolozzi, the Leith-born printmaker and sculptor credited as a founding figure of the Pop Art movement.
