Whiplash began as a side project for Alan Wolfe & Alex Lawes back in 2016. Alan and Alex met while working together at Rye River Brewing Company. Alex a keen homebrewer, had already taken a few steps into professional brewing through different projects. Alan was an operations manager coming from a few long stints at large breweries.
Both working in brewing already, they rented tanks at the weekend and brewed single batch small releases for fun from other friend’s breweries around Ireland. Professional beer dudes who were gypsying for fun.
Things soon escalated and by the end of 2017 Whiplash was its very own pain in the neck, with the guys going full time, brewing Whiplash beer all over Ireland and Europe.
2019 saw the two complete their dream and establish their site in Ballyfermot, Dublin as Whiplash headquarters complete with their own custom designed brewhouse. Now with a home, a kit and a small crew: Whiplash are very much the Dublin brewery at the forefront of all that’s modern in Irish beer.
The same year they were awarded Beer of the Year by Irish consumers, Best Brewery nods from bloggers, Honest Brew's Breakthrough Brewery award as well as coming in as Ireland's top-rated brewery on Untappd. In 2020 the brewery continued to release brand new beers against the backdrop of global hospitality shutdowns, and in January 2021 were proud to make a reappearance in the Honest Brew awards, this time scooping Best International Brewery.
Tonight’s beer is one of their most famous and well-regarded beers. Rollover has the hop rate of a double IPA but comes in at less than half the alcohol. This heavily hopped Session IPA comes at you with buckets of Simcoe, Ekuanot, Citra and Mosaic hops, with a light touch of malts and a super crushable body. Unfiltered, hazy, hoppy and juicy, Rollover is a New England inspired IPA without the heavy alcohol in tow.
